Marjorie Estelle Burnett Fish Marjorie Estelle Burnett Fish was born on a farm near Sanderson, Florida, on March 19, 1933, the third child of Eunice Marian Dobson and Noah Jefferson Burnett. She completed her mortal journey on June 2, 2018 at her home in Kaysville, Utah of causes incident to age. She grew up on the family farm and attended Sanderson School.
She learned homemaking skills and worked on the farm and enjoyed swimming and fishing in the creeks near her home. In high school, she played forward for the Sanderson High School Girls Basketball team along with her sister, Marian. Their team won the Florida State Championship in 1950.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints and attended meetings in the Sanderson Branch which was the first branch of the LDS Church created in the state of Florida. Marjorie married George D. Fish on June 4, 1950 at her family home. They are the parents of Linda Estelle, George Wayne, and Larry Eugene.
The family lived in Jacksonville, Macclenny, and Miami Florida. Marjorie trained to become a hairdresser and had a shop in her home where she worked hard and shared her talent with many loyal clients. She gave up her profession when the family moved to Miami in 1966 and worked as a bookkeeper and, later, for the Bell Telephone Co
She learned to sew from her mother and became a wonderful seamstress. When her children were young she made everything they wore and taught herself to tailor clothing so they fit perfectly. She used her talent many times over the years to help and serve others and to benefit her family.
As a grandmother, she loved making clothing for her grandchildren and made many beautiful quilts. After retirement in 1983, she and her husband moved to North Ogden, Utah and built a beautiful home that was immaculately kept. She loved being nearer to her family.
She was employed in Ogden School District for 10 years as a staff assistant in the special education program in Bonneville and Wasatch Elementaries as well as Ben Lomond High School. She loved working with her students and with the staff at these schools. Service was a hallmark of her life.
She served in many callings in the LDS Church and loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is through her influence that her husband became a member of the Church and she kept her family active and involved. She and her family were sealed for eternity June, 1968, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
We owe her a huge debt of gratitude for the happy lives we enjoy. She was a natural nurturer and LOVED babies. No baby could resist falling asleep and calming down as she rocked and snuggled them.
Marjorie is survived by her three children and two daughter-in-laws, Susan Scott Fish and Debra Dalton Fish, as well as 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren and her sister, Marian Adams. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Earl, Wilbur, and John Paul. We would like to express our thanks to her caregivers and to the wonderful neighbors, ward members, and friends who visited her and cheered and blessed her during the last months of her life.
Her funeral service will be held at the Pleasant View 2nd Ward (250 W. Elberta Drive, Pleasant View, Ut. ) Saturday, June 9, 2018 with a viewing from 10:00-11:00 and the funeral service at 11:30. Interment at the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
