Obituary for Judy Ann Flynn Judy Ann Flynn, our beloved mother and grandmother, slipped away quietly on April 14, 2018 surrounded by her family to the waiting arms of her Father in Heaven. She was greeted by her parents and her granddaughters who have been patiently waiting for her return home. She will be missed by her beloved husband: David Dean Flynn, and their children, Sandra Andrea (Norm), Sue Phelps (Joel), Eric Flynn, Curtis Flynn (Rebekah), Aaron Flynn (Shigae), and Laura Sarrafan.
She will also be remembered by her 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Demoin and Betty Hartley welcomed Judy into their loving family on May 19, 1940 and she was followed by Pat Jones (John), Larry Hartley (Karol), Ron Hartley (Claudia), and Jim Hartley (Betty Jo). Judy loved the deserts of Southern Utah and enjoyed countless trips with her family going hunting and fishing.
She learned the importance of family history as she watched her mother record wonderful family stories as told by her grandmother Flossie Elliot (Elmer Ray). Charles and Victoria Hartley, her grandparents, came to life through pictures and journals that the family shared together. Judy, very early on and throughout her life, always had a book at her side.
She loved the written word she would share and read from her favorite novels with her own family as we were growing up. In her early years she enjoyed eight summers in 4-H that were high-lighted by several State Fair trips. She had the exciting honor of a trip to Chicago to attend the National 4-H Club Congress.
Later she taught 4-H in her home town of Wellington, UT. Another honor she received was the opportunity to attended Girls State for scholastic achievement. Judy married Dave, the love of her life, on November 1st, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.
She was attending St. Mark’s School of Nursing at that time and later graduated on January 24, 1962. They enjoyed their life together and raising their family in Cache Valley, Salt Lake City, and West Mountain all in Utah. They later moved to Malad, ID for their final years on the family farm.
She was known for her selfless service, kindness, compassion, and love of family. She always exemplified the pure love of Christ in all of her endeavors as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, nurse; Director of Nursing at Sunshine Terrace Skilled Nursing Facility, in Logan, UT for 5 years and Owner Manager of the Scenic Motel in Salt Lake City, UT for over 35 years. Her love of the gospel and her Heavenly Father lead her to countless hours of selfless service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in genealogy/family history, scouting, primary, and relief society.
We will see her in every sunrise and sunset; feel her gentle kisses in the afternoon breeze, and always remember her love for us in the fragrance of her lilac trees. Our gratitude for the wonderful home and hospice care provided to our Mom by Jenni, Andrew, Sheryl, Andrea, Jocelyn, Stephanie, Fatima, and Dr. DeGrauw. Special thanks to Bishop Mel Bingham and Mom and Dad’s wonderful ward family for all the love they have shown Mom.
