Frances Edna Tuel, 79, of Chambersburg, PA formerly of Manassas, VA, passed away on December 7, 2018. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 17, 1939 to Frank and Alice (Tatem) Werts. She grew up on a farm on Larkin Road in Boothwyn, PA and graduated from Chi Chester High School in 1956.

On March 9, 1957, she married James L. Tuel, Sr They had two children, spent most of their working years as bakers and owned Packie’s Bakery in Cumberland, MD in the late 70’s/early 80’s. In 2001, they retired to Chambersburg, PA.

Frances enjoyed genealogy and was a former vice regent and member of the Elizabeth McIntosh Hammill Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Manassas, VA, member of the Virginia Society of Mayflower Descendants, member of the Pilgrim John Howland Society, a volunteer with the American Red Cross, delivered Meals on Wheels, baked hospice bread for Corpus Christi Catholic Church, hand sewed “buddy” bags containing personal care items given to homeless veterans through the DAR and served food boxes in the Chambersburg area. She was an active member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was dedicated to serving others and continually sought ways to help out neighbors, family and friends.

She loved to bake, sew, teach CCD, research genealogy, write poetry and most of all enjoyed spending time with her adoring family. Frances is survived by her two children, Brenda Eileen (wife of Charles) Resh of Mercersburg, PA and James L. (husband of Tina) Tuel, Jr. of Slippery Rock, PA. She has seven grandchildren: William Brian Sola (Sandee) of Tracys Landing, MD; Alicia Louise (Cornwell) Fields (Ryan) of Romney, WV; Stacey Lynette (Cornwell) Lyons (Josh) of Alna, ME; Autumn Pearl (Tuel) Zapp (Richard) of Butler, PA; Charles William Resh, IV of Mercersburg, PA; Hannah Faith Tuel and Christopher James Tuel both of Slippery Rock, PA.

She has two great grandsons: Camden James Fields and Hunter James Lyons. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Werts of Hagerstown, MD. She is preceded in death by her husband James; her parents, Frank and Alice Werts; brothers Alan Werts, John Werts, and infant brother Frank D. Werts, III.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church at 320 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one-half hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery.
