Fred “Pop” Miller Kirby July 01, 1920 – December 26, 2018 Local Florists Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Fred “Pop” Kirby Woodruff, SC – – Fred Miller “Pop” Kirby, 98, of 423 Winding Oak Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family. Born in Gaffney, he was the loving husband of Janet Becher Kirby for 41 years and son of the late Alonzo Washington “A.W.” Kirby and Edna Wilkins Kirby. He was a United States Army veteran having served in the 28th Infantry Division of World War II.

He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged. He was a graduate of Hickory Grove High School and the owner and operator of Kirby’s Body Shop until 1982 when he retired. He served on the Gaffney City Council for many years, was a member of River Hills Baptist Church, an avid Gamecock fan, and a true family man.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Randy Kirby (Evelyn) of Gaffney and Sean Kirby of Spartanburg; two daughters, Candice Kirby Bayne (Jason) of Travelers Rest and Lacey Kirby Brown (Matthew) of Spartanburg; a brother, Robert Kirby of Gaffney; nine grandchildren, Amy Cobb Horton (Steve), T. J. Cobb (Tammy), Daniel Kirby, Jordanleah Kirby, Haley Coker, Ashley Coker-Koch (Colton), John Coker, Jenna Bayne and Emma Bayne; five great-grandchildren, Katlyn Horton Kaigler (Chris), Kristen Horton, Jayden Kirby, Cayden Cobb and Holli Cobb; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Kirby Cobb, a brother, Jack Kirby, and two sisters, Lonnie Belle Kirby Spencer and Grace Kirby Keller. The family would like to extend special thanks to Kindred Hospice and nurse angels, Amber Jennings and Lezlie Long.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Blakely Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow at 3:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. The family will be at the residence.
