Obituary of Fred Lacy, Sr. Fred Lacy, Sr., 67 of Utica, NY, made his transition to go home to be with the Lord, on September 19, 2018 with his beloved dog Mercedes at his side. Fred, the son of David and Annia Lee Lacy was born on December 24, 1950 in Lexington, MI. , educated at the Lexington Attendance Center until the family relocated to Utica, NY in 1967.

Fred graduated from UFA, studying carpentry and masonry. Upon entering the workforce post-graduation, Fred was employed by UNIVAC, Bossert’s, Utica Corporation, Utica Transit Authority and retiring in the early 2000’s from Remington Arms. This is where he discovered his love of the outdoors and became a member of the Cornhill Fishing and Gaming Club.

At the age of 26, Fred was diagnosed with diabetes and other health issues, but being a “Lacy”, this was not a diagnosis that was going to take the spirit out of his sails. His love of family and friends kept the drive alive and most importantly, the selfless love of his only son, Fred Lacy, Jr., who donated a kidney to his father 17 years ago, a “Gift of Life”. Fred, known to his family as a comedian, would keep everyone on their toes, a laugh was always the best way to end the day.

The cook outs and family gatherings were the highlights in his life – he would always ask, “When is the next family gathering”? Well he is now at the next family gathering, preparing for all of those whose lives he touched. Fred leaves those to celebrate and cherish his memories, his son, Fred (Jackie) Lacy, Jr. (Utica), daughters: Shirley Ann (CA), Anisah and Taryn Lacy (Utica); grandchildren: Omari and Devine Waltower (CA); Desmonique Lacy (KY); Dajne Lacy (Buffalo); Fred III and Cornell, Jr. (Utica); siblings: John (Mary) Lacy and Susie (Walkery) Mills, Jr. (both of Utica); sister-in-law Martha Lacy (GA) and Tarita Mills (Utica), the mother of Anisah and Taryn Lacy; nieces and nephews: Walkery III and David Mills, Norris and Jerome Lacy, William and William Lee Lacy, John, Jr., Kenneth, Sr. and Michael Lacy, Sue Lee Brown, Ann and Linda Lacy, Anna Lee Lacy, Maria Roux and Jacqueline Lacy and a host of great nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Fred is predeceased by his parents: David and Annia Lee Lacy, siblings: David, James, William and Henry, sister-in-law Henrietta Lacy, nephews Willie and David Lacy. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to St. Luke’s Hospital, specifically the Alden-Calder Wing (3rd Floor) Nursing Staff for the excellent care shown to our loved one, Sgt. Phillips and Officer Aiello of the UPD and all the family and friends who have called or stopped by during our time of grief.

Thank You! Services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at T. Revels-Gibsson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm.
