Freida Lee Hembree, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:40 am on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Keepsake Village of Columbus. Born December 19, 1931 in Columbia, Kentucky, Freida was the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth Sinclair Burton. She married Jackie Ray Hembree on December 24, 1958 in Claiborne, Tennessee.

Freida was a member of Messiah Baptist Church in Columbus, the Lunch Group of North Vernon Senior Housing, and was proud to have the first total electric home in Indiana. She had been employed at Dairy Queen, ITT Thompson Industries, Corner Grocery, and Scooters Restaurant all in North Vernon. Freida enjoyed sewing, the C.B. radio (where she was known as Naughty Lady), gardening, canning, cooking, and loved time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; sons Ronnie (Kathy) Hubbard of Columbus, Larry Hembree of North Vernon, and Joseph (Michelle) Steely of Dayton, Ohio; daughters Debra (Roy) Arnold of North Vernon and Sheila (Robert) Neff of Deputy; brothers Alton Burton of Columbia, Kentucky, Billy Joe Burton of Edinburgh, and Danny Dale Burton of Seymour; sisters Lucille Cook of Edinburgh and Patty Lee of Columbia, Kentucky; grandchildren Robert (Gretchen) Hembree and Jennifer (Matt) Cowan both of North Vernon, Katrina (Richard) Bell of Sellersburg, Jason (Linda) Neff of Deputy, David (Donna) Redicker of Crothersville, Deanna Redicker, Heather (Jason) Mills, Brandy Hubbard, and Ronnie (Kelsey) Hubbard, all of Columbus; several great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Freida was preceded in death by her parents; brother Roger Burton; sisters Eunimma Goodin, Edith Irvin, and Glenna Rook; and daughter-in-law Peggy Voils Hembree. Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Rev.

Terry Branum and Rev. Michael Whited officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, March 11, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Vernon Cemetery. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Alzheimer’s Association.
