Obituary for Gail Edwards Turner Gail Edwards Turner, 72, passed away on September 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She lived her life as an example of how to love well, putting the needs of others before her own and loving people for who they are. Gail was born September 20, 1946, in Rome, Georgia to the late Raymond and Jessie Edwards.
She lived in Adairsville until moving to Aviation Road in Marietta in 1957. Gail graduated from Marietta High School in 1964. While attending high school at MHS she was involved in several campus activities as well as being an active member of the DEC Social Club.
Gail was captain of the cheerleading squad and was named homecoming queen her senior year. Gail was a proud graduate of Auburn University (War Eagle! ) where she was a sister in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
While at Auburn she married her high school sweetheart, Tommy Turner, in 1968, the same year she received her degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation Gail and Tommy returned home to Marietta and Gail began a career at what she referred to as “the Factory” (Lockheed). Always the hard worker, she loyally worked in Labor Relations at Lockheed until her retirement there.
Always enjoying her time with friends, Gail was a member of Marietta Country Club, where she played tennis and golf. She also enjoyed being a part of her Birthday Club for many years. In 2003, Gail earned her most beloved title as “GeGe” upon the birth of her first grandchild.
She was very proud to be called GeGe by her grandchildren and they meant the world to her. She was adored and loved by her grandkids and will forever have a special place in their hearts. Fun and adventure called to Gail and travel was also a big passion of hers.
Whenever you asked Gail to go for a short trip up the road, off to the beach, or to ride a camel in Egypt the answer was always “Yes, when do we leave? ” She enjoyed frequent trips with her sister, husband, friends, children, and grandchildren. Gail was a longtime member of Roswell Street Baptist Church.
While at RSBC she could be found caring for the babies in the nursery (Gail had a special affinity with babies and was considered the “baby whisperer” by many), laughing with the kids in the youth group, and chaperoning choir tours across the country where she might have even pulled a prank or two! Most recently, she was a current member of NorthStar Church. With such a beautiful smile, gorgeous blue eyes, and a heart of gold, GeGe will be missed by so many.
She adored her family and was often found cooking a good meal or hosting holidays for them, her favorite being Christmas. Whenever she could, she would get the family together just to see how happy they all were and she always did whatever she could to make them so. We know Gail is rejoicing in heaven but a large void will be left here on Earth that no other spunky, fun, loving, loyal, big-hearted person can fill.
GeGe is survived by her sister, Joyce Edwards McGee; husband of 50 years, Tommy Turner; son, Brad Turner (Amy); daughter, Stephanie Turner Lee (Mark); grandchildren, Isabella and Luke Turner, Abbie and Kitty Lee; niece, Alisa Sedacca (Bruce); and nephew, Lee Webb (Allie). The family will receive friends from 2-5pm Sunday, September 30, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm Monday, October 1, at NorthStar Church in Acworth.
