Gary A. Steenbock, age 68, a wonderful loving husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 9, 2019. He was born on March 31, 1950 in Clintonville, to Harold and Elizabeth (Frost) Steenbock, who were very loving and Christian parents. Gary graduated from Clintonville Sr. High School.
In 1969, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam for 15 months. Gary was humbled and honored to take the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington DC this past September. On February 20, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Schley.
Gary had been employed as a salesman, co-owner of Bus Parts, Inc. and he retired after 19 years working in maintenance for Cellcom. Gary was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church for 42 years. He enjoyed time with his devoted wife, children and grandchildren.
With his many tools, he was known as “Mr. Fix It”. Gary enjoyed country music and was very talented playing guitar and organ in several bands. He also enjoyed woodworking and spending time up north at their cabin.
Gary was a “one-of-a-kind” character, had a great sense of humor and gentle spirit. In addition to his wife, Sherry, Gary is survived by his children, Todd (Julie) Steenbock, Tammy (Matt Charles) Hockers, Tina Van De Ven, Tricia (Chad) Veley; grandchildren, Tyler Nuthals, Shelby and Cole Steenbock, Gavin, Kolby Gary and Kailey Hockers, Garrett, Chase and Owen Van De Ven, Madasyn, Olivia and Max Veley; sisters, Carla (Dennis) Wengelski, Mary (Mark) Rindt, Lisa (Merle) Childs; brothers, Harold Jr. (Beth) Steenbock, Robert (Amy) Steenbock; brother-in-law, Tom (Nancy) Rohan; aunts, Carol, Inge, Doris, and Ruth; uncles, Don and Les; Sherry’s family, Corey Hockers, Don Van De Ven; Dick Steenbock; Godchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Cellcom co-workers. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sue Rohan; Sherry’s parents; brothers-in-law, Jim, Kevin and Mark Schley, Terry Koeller and Jim Schider; niece, Tanya Finger.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue and again on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1731 St. Agnes Drive, with the Rev.
