Obituary for Gene Kimes Louis “Gene” Eugene Kimes, 85, of Piedmont, MO, passed away October 6, 2018, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home, Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born April 10, 1933 in Brunot, MO to parents Arthur David and Ora May (Valance) Kimes. Gene married Carolyn Martin on November 8, 1954 and to this union five children were born.
Gene proudly served our country for twenty years in the United States Army military intelligence, making the military his choice career. He earned several medals during his career including, two National Defense Service Medals, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, four Good Conduct Medals, Army Occupation Medal, and a Bronze Star to name a few. Gene was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He and his family also owned and operated Kimes Bargains for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, children: Roy (Deborah) Kimes of Piedmont, MO, Robert Kimes of Piedmont, MO, Rita (Mark) Berry of Tucson, AZ; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Gene is proceeded in death by one son: Ronald Kimes, and one daughter Roberta Kimes; brothers: Charles, Paul, Roy, Curt, and Jim Kimes; sisters: Lucille Stienke and Evelyn Davis.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Mt. View Cemetery in Des Arc, MO. with full military honors.
