George Donald Marion June 12, 1933 – January 27, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card On Sunday, January 27, 2019, George Donald Marion passed from this Life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 85. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Nelda Appling Marion of Seguin: daughters Sharon McCool, husband John: Sandra Blume, husband James: and Shelby Koehler. His grandchildren: Chanda Vollmar and husband Brad: Chad Baker and Chrystina Green.

He also had five great-grandchildren he doted on. George was born in Luling, Texas, June 12, 1933 to George Benjamin and Addie Pearl Blakeney Marion. He grew up and received his education there.

After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Valley Forge during the Korean War. After his military service he returned to Luling and married his childhood sweetheart, Nelda in the First Methodist Church in Luling on September 5, 1956. He then attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and began a teaching career upon graduation.

He was a high school Sciences teacher in Bandera and Texas City, Texas. He then embarked on a new career in the petrochemical industry until his retirement. Upon retiring, he and Nelda returned to Seguin to be near family and their roots.

He took up his passion of landscape designing and had one of the prettiest yards in Seguin! ! He was always quick with a word of encouragement and to let you know you were loved.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seguin and of the Men’s Brotherhood at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Seguin, He was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Texas City, Texas, as well as the Shriners. Our family would like to thank the caregivers at Nesbit Nursing and Rehabilitation for the love and care they showed our father. And many thanks to the Hospice team from Guadalupe Regional Medical Center.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services, 1215 E. Court St., Seguin, Texas, 78155.
