Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Seguin with Rev.

Jack Schuford, Rev. Jeremy Roy and Rev. Jim Price officiating.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at San Geronimo Cemetery. Jerry was born on August 13, 1938 in Big Spring, TX to James Oliver and Mildred Elvie (Murray) Murphy. Jerry graduated from Big Spring High School, and then proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959.

After his military service he received his Master of Plumbing license, as well as his Welding license and Commercial Truck Driving license. On December 15, 1967 he married Tavie Daniel in Big Spring, Texas. Jerry will be remembered as the owner of Murphy Plumbing Co. and also having retired from the Guadalupe County Road and Bridge Department.

He enjoyed both farming and ranching. As an active member of Leesville Baptist Church in Leesville, Jerry always enjoyed spending time with his church family. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Garden City, Texas.

Jerry was a man who had many passions, his love for God and family was his favorite. He loved spending time with people whether it be playing 42 with his special friends or Wednesday morning coffee and tacos with his buddies at Reyna’s. Jerry was a woodworking craftsmen, he also loved knife collecting, model trains, fishing, camping, traveling, and old western TV shows.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Oliver “Jimmy” Murphy Jr. and his brother-in-law Ralph Walker. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years Tavie Daniel Murphy; Daughters, Tavie Carol Murphy Erwin and husband David, Terri Lyn Murphy, and Tammi Murphy; Siblings, Marian Murphy Walker and Forest Richard “Dick” Murphy and wife Barbara; Grandchildren, Faith Erwin, Kadie Erwin, and Jeremy Murphy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many, many friends. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Serving as Pallbearers will be David Brooks, Jesse Hoermann, Tony Taylor, Pete Byrd, Spencer Carley, Don Phillips, Kevin Murphy, and Lance Murphy. Honorary Pallbearer will be Marck Schafer. Memorial contributions may be made to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center Hospice, 1215 E. Court St. Seguin, TX 78155 or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, 600 Southwest 11th Street, Amarillo, TX 79101.
