George’s Obituary George Harris, age 97, formerly of Madison Lake, died Monday, February 25, 2019, at Silver Bay Veterans Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake with Fr. Robert Schneider as Celebrant.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to All Saints Catholic Church.

George Russell Harris was born on October 21, 1921 in Park Rapids to John Iwin and Mary May (Tecomchuk) Harris. He attended Park Rapids High School, graduating with the class of 1938. George enlisted into the United State Navy on January 19, 1944, proudly serving our country during World War II, being honorably discharged on February 8, 1946.

George was united in marriage to Mary Louise Hill on November 30, 1946, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Park Rapids. They lived in Park Rapids for a few years before moving to Minneapolis where George worked as a welder for an aviation company, then moved to Morgan where he worked for a Blacksmith. In 1953, George and Mary moved to Minnesota Lake where George purchased a Welding Shop that he owned and operated for 23 years.

In 1974, the Harris family moved to Guatemala where they served as Missionaries for one year. Upon returning to Minnesota they continued living in Minnesota Lake before moving to Madison Lake in 1979, where George continued to run a welding shop until retiring in 1988. In retirement he continued to work part time as the custodian at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake.

George was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the Madison Lake American Legion Post 269. George is survived by his children: Martin (Sara) Harris of New Richmond, WI, and Dolores (Hans) Zumkeller of Germany; grandchildren: Nora Elizabeth Harris and Claire Marie Harris; and by many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 68 years, two brothers and four sisters.
