Obituary Lakeview-George Wilford Goulet, age 91, passed away at his home on April 22, 2018, in Lakeview, Michigan. He was born August 6, 1926, in Ludington, the son of Dr. Leo and Elizabeth (Pomeroy) Goulet. George was raised in Ludington and graduated from St. Simons Catholic School.

On June 10, 1950, he married the love of his life, Lois Ann O’Brien, who preceded him in death in 2014. He spent 40 years working for Lakeview Community Schools, starting out as a bus driver, 5th grade teacher, and football coach. He later taught junior high science and spent the last 27 years of his career as the elementary principal.
He was twice named outstanding Michigan principal. He was a member of the Michigan Elementary/Middle School Principal Association where he served terms as vice president as well as 7 years on the State Board of Directors. He also served two terms as president of the Region 9 MEMSPA.
George was an active member of the Lakeview community. He was a Montcalm County Red Cross water safety instructor and spent summers teaching swimming lessons in the morning and working as the lifeguard in the afternoons at Tamarack Lake. He was a Mariner Scout leader as well.
During his career he was also a referee for football and basketball, and a baseball umpire. George was a devout member of St. Francis De Sales parish in Lakeview. There, he served on the diocese liturgical commission, was a Cursillo leader, and taught religious education classes.
There were many hobbies that George had throughout his life but golf was the activity he loved the most. He was a member of a few golf leagues which he enjoyed as long as he was able. He will be missed by his seven children; Kathy (Steve) Hoeksema, Larry, Karen, Marilyn, Theresa, George (Linda) Goulet, and Lois Goulet-Federau, 18 grand children and 15 great grandchildren.
His survivors also include his brother Lee, half brothers and sister: Mike Brooks, Mary Ann Renier, and Joseph, Robert and Leo Goulet as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of George’s life will take place on Friday, May 11, 2018, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Lakeview, with the family accepting friends at 10:00 AM. Internment with military honors at Lakeview Cemetery will be immediately after the service with a luncheon following in the Brigham Funeral Chapel banquet room in Lakeview.
