Obituary for Gerald Robert COHOES Gerald H. Robert, 91, of Cohoes died Sunday October 7, 2018 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on September 22, 1927 in Cohoes to the late Henry and Colombe Riel Robert. A lifelong Cohoes resident, Jerry enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17.
He served on a transport ship in WWII. On June 17, 1956 he married the love of his life, Catherine (Kay) Buchanan Robert and remained devoted to one another for the past 62 years. He was employed by the New York State Office of General Services as a printer and retired in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. He loved to travel with his wife and family. He also loved to golf and was an avid walker and enjoyed playing cards for years with several of his close friends.
He loved traveling to places like Wildwood, NJ and Myrtle Beach SC, as well as spending Sundays picnicking with friends and family in Shaftsbury, VT. Jerry was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Gerald M. Robert (late Cynthia) of Colonie, Kathryn Peat (John) of Waterford, and Donna Bouchard (William) of Cohoes.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Robert, Christopher Robert (April), James Bleau, Zackary Bleau, Katelyn Peat and Matthew Bouchard. Also surviving are great granddaughters, Lillyana and Carley Robert as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Jerry was predeceased by his siblings: John Robert (Veronica), Leo Robert (Betty), Louis Robert (Marion), Rita Metzner, Lauretta Lampman (Wesley), Thomas Robert, Alice Vadney (Harold) and Ernest Robert as well as his sister-in-law Theresa Norton (James).
Funeral services will be Saturday at 8:30 am from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rte. 32), Waterford and at 9 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 pm. The family would like to thank all of the compassionate home health aides that worked with Jerry. We would especially like to thank Ashleigh McGowan and Vicki Grignon for staying with the family throughout the duration of his illness.
