Gerald Sims, 71, of Frankfort died early Thursday morning at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. A native of Lexington, Gerald graduated from Lexington Catholic High School. He and his wife, Elaine, made their home there the first few years of their fifty-one-year marriage while he worked for the State Highway Dept.
and Rainbo Bread Co They moved to Frankfort in 1975 to open a Sunoco station. After several years in the service station business, Gerald and Elaine bought the Dixie Cream Donut Shops and ran that as their family business for twenty-five years.
Since then, they continued in businesses in Frankfort with Elaine’s Hallmark and Adelia’s Café. Besides being a long-time member of the Frankfort business community, he was also a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Cherryholmes and Anthony Sims; and one sister, Carolyn Sims Spickard.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Sims; son, Christopher Sims; daughter, Stephanie Sims; and brother, Anthony “Tony” Sims. Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Frankfort. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Maupin, Keith Sims, Steve Watkins, Vernon Sims, Bruce McKneely, and Anthony Sims.
