Geraldine Lucille Smith July 14, 1934 – February 15, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Geraldine Lucille Powell was born on July 14, 1934 to Victor Emanuel Powell and Claire Blackmon in Charlotte Amarlie, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. She was one of thirteen children. She met and fell in love with Irwin Smith.

Together they moved to New York City and raised four children, Irwin, Patrick, Adrienne and Francisca. Geraldine worked for the City of New York Medicaid Division. She retired in the late 1970’s.

In her retirement, she volunteered at her grandchildren’s school. She went back to school to obtain her GED. Geraldine enjoyed traveling, cooking and hanging out with her grandchildren, her sisters, nieces and nephews.

She loved shopping at the malls and playing softball with her grandsons. She loved her soap operas and her two favorite game shows, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. Geraldine is survived by: her three children, Patrick Smith, Adrienne Smith Murray and Francisca Smith Washington; her grandchildren, Tristan Murray, Justin Washington, Melissa Murray and Sharice Washington; her sisters, Gertrude Samuels, Violet Vanterpool and Yolanda Penna; her brother, Winfield Moses; her sons-in-law, Hazel Murray and Tyrone Washington; brother-in-law, Lucien Samuels; and her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
