Obituary of Gerry L. Ruby Gerry L. “Rube” Ruby, 81, of Lakewood, NY, passed away at 8:10 am Friday, March 22, 2019, in his home following a brief illness. An area resident since 1958, he was born March 3, 1938 in New Albany, IN, a son of the late Walter H. and Mary L. Crabb Ruby. He was a graduate of the Graham High School in Bluefield, Va.

Before his retirement in 1999, he was employed as an assistant Superintendent by the Village of Lakewood Highway Department for 38 years. He will be remembered for his love of cars and trucks. He loved fixing and repairing his vehicles and was always known for his shiny black cars and trucks.

He was also a fan of NASCAR Racing and was saddened when his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr passed away following a crash at Daytona. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Ann “Dot” Lafarier Ruby whom he married July 3, 1958, a son; David (Sharoyn) Ruby, a daughter; Linda K. (Richard) Romaniuk all of Lakewood, NY, two grandchildren; Jordyn R. Romaniuk, Carolyn Ruby both of Lakewood, and a sister; Alecia Ernst of Glenville, NY. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson; Justin Lee Romaniuk who died January 23, 2017, two brothers; Robert M. Ruby, James E. Ruby and a sister; Carolyn Sue Pedrick.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to the Lakewood Fire Department, 37 JW Packard Blvd.
