Perez, Gilbert Garcia (82) of Hawaiian Gardens, passed away on Friday December 1st. 2017 at Los Alamitos Hospital with family and friends at his bedside. He was born to the late Francisco and Maria Garcia Perez on Thursday, November 14th, 1935 in Orange California.

He married the late Donna Lee Mayse in 1958 and is survived by their four children: Lawrence, Suzie, Shelley and Linda. Two grandchildren: Malachi and Faith. All live in the Southern California area.

“Gilly” worked hard all of his life as a general construction laborer, specializing in concrete. He retired young, in his early fifties, but continued his love of physical work until the day before he died. His hobbies were collecting (most anything), tending to his garden and in general….

beautifying the world where he saw fit. A wise, humble and kind man, he made many friends from all walks of life and he formed many long lasting friendships like the one with Rene (Tino) Heimann since 1955. He formed deep bonds with newer friends as well like Manuel and Johnny Mendez, and many others, He respected all life forms, from the flower he would not pick (not wanting to cut it’s life short) to the pesky fly he would not swat as it tried to taste his food because, as he once said (as a matter of fact) “well, the fly needs to make a living too”.

RIP Gilbert, the world will miss you. Services will be held on Friday, January 5th, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Artesia Cemetery located at 11142 Artesia Blvd. , Cerritos CA 90703 A reception will be held in his honor immediately following the service at C. Robert Lee Activity Center 21815 Pioneer Blvd.
