Obituary for Gilbert Loran Rittner Gilbert “Billy” Rittner, age 82, of Jonesborough, TN passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from his home. Born in Fredericksburg, VA he was the son of the late William and Esther Rittner. Gilbert “Tex” Rittner graduated from Stafford High School in 1954 and entered the United States Navy in 1955.

He was a career Navy man who served in Vietnam on the USS Ranger Aircraft Carrier. After retiring from the Navy, Mr. Rittner continued working with the Navy as a civilian contractor. Mr. Rittner was a devoted husband of over 50 years to his late wife, Juanita Sue.

He was a member of the American Legion, loved to travel, read, and learn about history. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Wright. Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Donald Ritner and wife Mary of Fredericksburg, VA; two nieces, Donna Marie and Lori; a daughter, Maxine Mehne and husband Dallas of Indiana; a son, Clarence Rittner of CA.

Four grandsons, seven great grandchildren, and many cousins also survive. A service to honor the life of Gilbert Rittner will be at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family and viewed by visiting our website at www.
