Obituary for Glenda Karen York Glenda Karen York, 72, of Oktaha, Oklahoma entered her Heavenly home on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was born November 14, 1945 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Sanferd and Ida (Hall) Miller. Karen graduated from Hitchita High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University.

Karen married the love of her life, John Allen York, on July 15th, 1967. Last year they celebrated 50 happy years of life and marriage together. They were blessed with two sons, Allen York and Aubrey York and four grandchildren.

Karen’s life was devoted in service to others. She was a long time Oktaha High School Teacher where she taught typing, shorthand, and accounting. Karen’s passion for teaching benefitted students and staff in Oktaha for more than 30 years.

Karen volunteered her free time to Oktaha Trinity Baptist church, serving many supportive roles behind the scenes. Members of Oktaha Trinity had the pleasure of listening to her play the piano every Sunday morning for over 40 years. Her laugh was contagious.

She was a natural caregiver with a servant heart. Karen was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her father, Sanferd Miller; brother, Larry Miller; and sister-in-law, Mary Burgin.

Karen is survived by her husband, John, of the home; sons, Allen York and wife April of Oktaha, Aubrey York and wife Kate of Fayetteville, AR; grandchildren, Ashton York, Abby York, Davis York, and James York; mother, Ida Miller of Hitchita; brothers, Tim Miller and wife Margaret of Hitchita, Vaughn Miller and wife Dena of Checotah; sisters-in-law, Kaye Miller of Amarillo, TX; Gladys Platner and husband Steve of Tulsa, and Kathy Spears of Muskogee; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. A memorial service celebrating Karen’s life will be 2PM, Friday, November 16, 2018 at Oktaha First Community Church with Rev. Jeff Ward officiating.

Karen battled Alzhiemer’s disease in the last stages of her life. The family would like you to consider a donation, in Karen’s name, to the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. , Fl.
