Glenn William Pietenpol, 76, of South Haven, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was born March 6, 1942 to Archie and Irene (TenHaken) Pietenpol in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. Glenn earned his BA from Hope College, his Masters in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, and his National Graduate Trust Degree from Northwestern University.

He taught high school chemistry and algebra at Sparta High School and later became a senior vice president and trust officer for Chemical Financial Corporation. He leaves his wife of 52 years – Mary (Harmens) Pietenpol, children – Steven (Lisa) Pietenpol, David (Laura) Pietenpol, and daughter-in-law – Jody (Troy) Jennings; three beloved grandchildren – Ella, Ashlee, and Gage Pietenpol; a sister, Carol Debbink and a brother Dale (Sarah) Pientenpol; a brother-in-law Jack (Joan) Harmens; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son – Brian, and grandchildren – Mitchell and Abigail Pietenpol; also by his parents and a sister Ione Heinen.

“Big G’s” true joy was spending time watching his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest supporter at their athletic events, encouraged them in their academic pursuits, and was their biggest fan. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his beloved Green Bay Packers during the football season.

One of his other passions was his commitment to the community, whether a Kiwanian in Midland or a Rotarian in South Haven. He always took time to “give back”. His service will be missed especially at the annual pancake breakfasts.

In that spirit, contributions may be made in Glenn’s memory to the Pietenpol Family Scholarship c/o Hope College, PO Box 9000, 141 East 12 Street, Holland, Michigan 49422 or to the South Haven Community Foundation, PO Box 507, South Haven, Michigan 49090. A private family service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank all of Glenn’s friends and family for celebrating his life with him in the last two months with their visits, calls, cards, emails, and texts.

It was truly a special time for Glenn.
