Obituary for Griffin Buchanan Pollard Jr. Psalm 116:15-Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants. Appling, Ga. – Griffin Buchanan Pollard, Jr., 86, husband of 67 years of Helen Johnson Pollard, entered into rest on Monday, November 19, 2018, at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, Augusta, Ga.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Kiokee Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Hartman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. When introduced he always said, “Just Call Me, Jake”.

He was the most comfortable person in his own skin of anyone I’ve ever known. He never needed any other title to make him happy. He had an amazingly sharp mind and quick wit.

He was completely real and honest. He said, his Dad told him, “Always tell the truth and you won’t have to try to remember what you’ve said”. He had respect for all people and believed in helping anyone he could.

He never held grudges. He didn’t live in the past or with regrets because he always tried to do what’s right to the best of his ability. He was as happy digging postholes as he was talking to Governors.

He loved his God, his family, Kiokee Church and Appling. He loved his friends and was not ashamed to tell them, men or women, that he loved them. He could ride a horse like a western hero.

He could drive a car (and when young, often did) like an Indy racecar driver. He was intensely goal-oriented and completely loyal to his beliefs. He was a consummate handyman and a poster child workaholic.

He loved being with people and people were comfortable with him. He spent his life serving others. He served Kiokee Baptist Church over 40 years as Chairman of Deacons and Sunday School teacher.

He served Columbia County 28 years as Superior Court Clerk. He served the 24th District as State Senator for 8 years. He served the State for 3 years on the State Ethics Commission.

He served his country for 4 years in the United States Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran. He also served in many civic clubs, including Boy Scouts, State President and National Director of the Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and District Governor of Rotary International. Through it all, he served God and his family.

Living by the standards of his Christ whom he loved. Survivors include his wife, Helen J. Pollard; two sons, Griffin B. “Jake” Pollard, III (Melanie Bass) and Keith Allen Pollard; and one grandson, Ben Buchanan Pollard. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mildred Blanchard and June Crawford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kiokee Baptist Church, PO Box 430, Appling, GA 30802 or to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15th St. Augusta, GA 30901. Special thanks to the staff and caregivers on the fifth floor of Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. Pallbearers will be Pierce Blanchard, Robert Pollard, L.A. Pollard, Daniel Blanton, Richard Crawford and Eddie Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kiokee Deacons, Senator Lee Anderson and Chuck Thompson. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM in the church fellowship hall.
