Harold “HAD” Lerew, 100, died peacefully on December 17, 2018. Had was raised on a farm in Adams County Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg, and grew up in a rural town, York Springs, PA, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse. There he met the love of his life Mary Catherine Ecker.

They eloped and were married July 8, 1940 and spent 72 loving years together until her death in 2013. Had went to Gettysburg College for a 2-year business program, entered the Navy and was assigned as a seaman on a submarine tender, the USS HOLLAND. He served in the Pacific during WW 2.

Had worked for Seagram’s Distillers and lived in Philadelphia and New York City during his 43-year career. During the last few years he was the CFO and recalled making major business deals with the shake of the hand. Honesty and trust were two of his greatest attributes.

Had always believed in equality and fairness. He was one of the first men at Seagram’s to promote a woman to an executive position. She is thankful to this day.

Had lived a faith filled life and spent much of his time dedicated to local Lutheran Churches. He was involved with the music and worship programs as well as the Sunday school and church Council. His faith and trust in our Lord was extremely important to him each day.

Had and Catherine had one daughter Barbara who married George Heymach. Had is survived by their three children, Brooke (Bill), G. John (Elissa), Bria (Jason) and seven great-grandchildren Zoe, Luke, Jack, Ana, Matthew, Cole, Ethan. Had and Catherine loved to travel and always enjoyed family times.

They loved card games, Broadway plays and music. Had played the piano, organ, violin, alto saxophone and loved to sing. Had especially enjoyed baseball and especially Tug McGraw who attended his 1980 retirement party in NYC in.

Harold at 100 was still a humble, caring, loving and faith-filled gentleman. Celebration of Life at First Lutheran Church, 6400 State Line Road, Mission Hills, KS on December 27th at 11:00 AM. Visitation 10:30.

A graveside service will be held 11 AM, Saturday December 29, 2018 at Sunnyside Cemetery, York Springs, PA. The family suggests donations be given to First Lutheran Church. Local arrangements are being handled by Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA.
