Obituary for Harold Marcum Harold Marcum, 80, of Jonesville, VA passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home. Harold served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1960 and then served in the Reserves from 1960 until 1962. He was a contractor and merchant who had established five different building supply stores, Marcum’s Building Supply in Ewing, VA, Contractor’s Supply in Jonesville, The Plumber’s Shop in Pennington Gap, VA, Gap Lumber in Big Stone Gap, VA, and Builder’s Hardware in Jonesville.

He also had previously served on the Lee Regional Hospital Board. Harold was a born again Christian who was a member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in Ewing.

He loved the Lord, his family, building things, and flying. He was a licensed private pilot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benton and Bonnie (Ayers) Marcum; two sons, Markley Charles Marcum and Mitchell Clark Marcum; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Jane Garrett; brother, Maurice Marcum; brothers-in-law, Rondle Garrett and Junior Garrett; and a sister-in-law, Lois McNiel.

Harold is survived by his wife of 32 years, Helen Garrett Marcum; daughter, Erin Garrett and husband Jason, of Summerville, SC; grandson, Jackson Garrett; daughter-in-law, Doreen Marcum, of Luggoff, SC; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Marcum, of Boone, NC, Betty Mullins, of Stickleyville, VA, and Linda Neeley and husband Bill, of Jonesville; brother-in-law, Jack Garrett and wife Brenda, of Pennington Gap, VA; special caregiver, Donna Day; and numerous nieces, nephews, special cousins, extended family members and a host of friends. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, in the funeral home chapel with Patton Speak and Eddie Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Garrett Family Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Wise County Veterans Organization and the Gate City Honors Team. Pallbearers will be, Lyndon Livesay, David Graham, Jack Garrett, Brian Garrett, John Jerrell, Bill Neeley, Tyler Mullins, Travis Mullins and Garrett Fisher. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the church or charity of your choice.
