Helen was born on August 13, 1942 in Thomaston, GA. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion M. McClellan, Sr., resided in Thomaston for more than forty years. Helen attended the Robert E. Lee Institute in Thomaston, graduating in 1960.
Her college studies began at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA. She ultimately transferred to the University of Georgia, graduating with a BA in English in 1964. Helen was extremely proud of her “Dogs” and faithfully attended the Georgia-Florida rivalry football game for over thirty years with her husband, Frank J. Hawkins, a University of Florida attendee.
Helen’s career began as an English teacher at Sprayberry High School in Cobb County, GA. She then returned to college taking business classes at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Her life’s work began when she joined Tab Products Company in 1971.
For over 35 years, she was in sales, earning 12 trips to the national convention. She was the first woman to achieve this level of excellence. Helen and Frank’s passion was travel.
Over the forty-four years of their marriage, they traveled the world, ultimately visiting all seven continents. Their home has always been filled with reminders of their adventures together. If ever you asked her about a particular item, it brought an amazing tale of a faraway land.
