Dorothy R.”Dot” Tippens, age 92, of Stone Mountain, Ga. , passed away Sunday morning, December 23, 2018. She was born in Holly Springs, Ga.

and grew up in Cherokee County. She attended Canton High School and was a member of the girls basketball team. It was here that she met her husband, “Bud”, also a basketball player, to whom she was married for 65 years.

After Bud returned home from WWII, they began their business in Atlanta. It was an apparel trim manufacturing company that first made sholder pads and later ladies belts. They ran it successfully for over 40 years.

Dorothy was a very hard working,savvy business woman who taught herself many skills that were integral to its success. A member of First Baptist Church of Tucker for over 35 years, she enjoyed taking part in her Sunday school class, the Encouragers. She was an elegant, gracious southern lady who appreciated the beauty in everything around her, especially her flowers and garden.

Bud preceded her in death in 2007. She is survived by her three children: sons, Jerry Tippens and wife, Angie of Alexander City, Al and Charles Tippens of Stone Mountain, Ga. , daughter, Jan Eidson and husband, Randy of Lilburn, Ga.

, four grandchildren, Randy Tippens, Lisa Coleman, Erin Payne and Brice Eidson, three great grandchildren, Lia Coleman, Jake and Griffin Payne, as well as cherished nieces and nephews, life long friends and former employees. Her funeral will be Friday, December 28, 2018, at 2 pm in the Bill Head Funeral Home, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel with visitation immediately preceding from 12:30 until 2 pm. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, Ga.
