Hilda Louise Green, 89, of Finksburg, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. She was a resident of Integrace Fairhaven Retirement Community, Sykesville, MD. She was born June 26, 1929 in Frederick, Maryland.

She was the daughter of the late Grayson D. and Belva L. Biddinger and the wife of the late Joseph C. Green who passed away in December, 2005. They were married for 53 years. Hilda was retired from Carroll County Public Schools.

She often shared the many fond memories of her co-workers and the children she served every day. Prior to her working at Carroll County Public Schools, she worked at Forest Inn Restaurant. She was always very proud of her strawberry pies that she baked at home for the restaurant for every Mother’s Day.

She was always a great baker and a huge fan of ole school Country and Western music. She is survived by sons, Norman C. Green and his wife Iona of Raleigh, NC; Gary R. Green and his wife, Sandra of Taneytown; and daughter Maura L. Fravel and her husband, Shawn of Finksburg. She is survived by her brother, Ray Biddinger; sisters, Gloria Andrews and Patsy Nelson.

Hilda is also survived by 6 grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sisters Annabelle Hahn and Carol Ann Gaynor. Hilda grew up around Walkersville in Frederick County, Maryland.

She often shared her experiences growing up on a farm with family and friends. She would often tell tales of walking to school with the Mercer girls and her older sister Annabelle. She would tell about how they would walk down the rail road tracks and squeeze through fences to get to their 2 room school house.

The grades were divided: 1 to 4 and 5 to 6. There were no in-door bathrooms and the children had to line up to visit the outhouse. The boys would play in one corner of the school yard and the girls in the other.

As we listened, it seemed unimaginable by what we know today, but there was always joy and happiness in the stories told. She will be truly missed. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11 AM at Evergreen Memorial Garden in Finksburg, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave.
