Robert Philip Boner, 77, of Westminster, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Most knew him as Bob, a generous and compassionate man. Bob was born on January 21, 1941 in Parsons, Kansas to parents William Joseph and Mary Catherine (Coons) Boner.

He was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Gongwer) Boner, his wife of 52 years. Bob graduated from Saint Patrick’s Catholic High School in 1959, he earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Rockhurst College… Read More » in 1963, and he earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in 1970. He was a Professor of Mathematics at McDaniel College for 37 years.

Bob passionately pursued a number of hobbies during his lifetime, including photography, fly fishing, breeding and showing Netherland Dwarf rabbits, cycling, and coaching youth sports and academic teams. He was a constant of support and encouragement for his children, extended family, and friends. As a Eucharistic minister and active member of St. John Catholic Church, he brought communion to the homebound and sick each week for over 25 years.

He was a member of the Carroll County Camera Club and Carroll County Rabbit and Cavy Breeders Association. Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn; son Phil Boner of Bayview, ID; son Chris (Jen) Boner and children Zachery, Brian and Nathan of Purcellville, VA; daughter Katie (Juan) Marin and children Juan, Roberto, Andres, Elena, and Sofia of Hancock, MI; sisters Mary Ann Whitlock of Gilbert, AZ, Susan (Tom) Pavey of Minneapolis, MN, and Pat (Sid) Mabie of Park City, KS; and thirteen loving nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Michael Boner.

The family will welcome friends on Monday, September 10 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM, with a remembrance service beginning at 7 PM, at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd. , Westminster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, with eulogy at 9:50, on Tuesday, September 11 at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster.

Interment will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery, 818 Old Taneytown Rd, Westminster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave. , Westminster, MD 21157 or to Carroll County Food Sunday, PO Box 2160, Westminster, MD 21157.
