Horace’s Obituary Services honoring and remembering Horace Finley Young will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Verdigris. Horace passed away February 8, 2019 at his home in Claremore. He was 76.

Horace Finley Young was born June 5, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of John L. Young and Juanita Mae (Morrow) Young. He was raised and educated in Tulsa, graduated from Tulsa Central in 1960, and then served proudly in the United States Marine Corp from 1960 to 1964. He then earned his associate’s degree in Engineering from Tulsa Technical College (now TCC) and completed his degree in the mid-70s.

On March 14, 1970 Horace married Mildred Diane Higdon at his parent’s home in Tulsa. They made their home in Tulsa, and in 1972 moved to Verdigris. Horace was a retired engineer, draftsman, designer, and engineer training coordinator.

In his career he worked for American Airlines, Auto Crane, Tulsa Winch, and Limco Air Repair, and his designs were used in several other industries, including work on the worlds largest dump truck rig which he contributed to the electrical controls of. Horace and his wife Mildred loved to play golf together. Mildred, the farmers daughter, taught Horace how to garden, and later even how to can their produce.

Travel and fishing were also a frequent past-time. He was a diehard OU Sooners Fan. Horace’s main focus was spreading the word of Jesus Christ.

He was a born-again believer who taught Sunday school for many years, and served on the councils at Good Samaritan Ministries. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred (Millie) and his parents: John and Juanita (Morrow) Young. He leaves to cherish his memory one son: Horace F. Young, Jr. and his girlfriend Michelle of Oologah; one daughter: Kassandre Sue Balocca and her husband Bruce of Broken Arrow; four grandchildren: Samantha, Trittany, Vance, and Millie B.; one brother: Jerry Don Young, and one sister: Jessie Harrell; as well as many other relatives and friends.
