Hubert’s Obituary Hubert Paul Barnes, Jr. “Son”, 67 of Smith’s Station, AL died at Columbus Hospice House Thursday, May 23, 2019 surrounded by family. The family will receive friends from 2:00 till 4:00PM Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City, AL. The family will also receive friends at 1:00PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Floyd Mortuary and Crematory, Inc. in Lumberton, NC.

Funeral services will follow at 2:00PM. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens in Lumberton, NC. Mr. Barnes was born October 04, 1951 in Lumberton, NC, son of the late Hubert Paul Barnes, Sr. and Eva Mae Wilkins Barnes.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam era. Mr. Barnes had retired from West Point Stevens as a supervisor of the Cloth Room, then he ventured into a new career as a Driving Instructor for American Truck Driving Academy. He previously was a member of the Smith’s Station Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

We will remember his as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His fond memories will continue to be in our hearts and minds. Mr. Barnes was also preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Barnes, father-in-law and mother-in-law, CW-4 (Ret) Denver Gene Kidd and Ruth West Kidd; brother-in-law; Gerald Hayes.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Kathy Kidd Barnes, Smith’s Station, AL; two daughters, Michelle Barnes She’d (Jason), Salem, AL and Amanda Barnes Norman (Drew), Smyrna, GA; two sisters, Jean Barnes Hayes and Sandra Bishop (Roger); two brothers, Johnny Barnes (Saria) and Kenny Barnes (Mary); brother-in-law, Col. (Ret) Michael Gene Kidd (Barbara); five grandchildren, Brianna She’d Wells (Chris), Kaleigh She’d Laughlin (SGT Renz); Curtis Jason Shedd, Evelyn Gene Norman and Ansley Opal Norman; three great-grandchildren, Maddox Wells, Aspen Laughlin and Madeline Wells; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made for a Columbus Hospice Golden Leaf in honor of Hubert Barnes, www.
