Irene Aquino Bautista, 87, of Pleasant Grove, passed away May 17, 2019. She grew up in the Philippines as a child of war. She was the 5th of 13 children.

Her mother was a housekeeper and her father was a land owner. Irene loved to dance so much that she would sneak out at night by sliding down one of the stilts that kept the house up. Irene met her husband, Feliciano Bautista in Alaminos, Philippines.

They met because Feliciano’s cousin married Irene’s sister. Irene and Feliciano had 4 children – Joel, Elenita, Feliciano Jr., and Eleanor, and their adopted son Pepito. Together with their kids, they managed a large farm with all kinds of animals.

Irene and her husband also had a big orchard and a large rice farm to manage, even raising a kennel of Dobermans to sell to local fish pond owners. They worked hard so that all four of their children could graduate from college which they all did which she was very proud of. Irene had an uncanny gift of decorating, hair styling, not to mention her being a great seamstress.

Irene moved to the United States as a widow when she was 68 and kept busy by helping raise the 3 Holdaway grandchildren and by volunteering as Foster Grandparents. She was known for her wide smiles, her kindness and love to everyone and always ready to help out. She is survived by her children: daughter-in-law Liza Bautista, Elen (Adam) Holdaway, Feliciano Jr (Rowena), and Eleanor (Greg) Moss, as well as her adopted son Pepito (Shiela) Carino.

She has 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, as well as her son, Joel, parents and many siblings. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 S 300 E, Pleasant Grove.
