Obituary for Irene Chambers Martin Out of the mind of God sent a beautiful daughter, Irene Timmons, born to the union of Almo & Ina Timmons, on November 30, 1927, in Eastman, Georgia, on a glorious day celebrated by all of her siblings who preceded her in death. Therefore, we celebrate this day, May 31, 2018, and share a glimpse into her life and to hold her in memory of all those who love and cherish her. She often spoke of how she was taught to read the Bible at the tender age of three by the Holy Spirit and would speak in other languages, at times, while reading.
She was blessed at an early age and had a great Love for the Lord even then. She was the seventh (7th) of fourteen siblings of who she loved dearly. Irene was baptized at 12 years of age at Antioch Dempsy Church in a Creek by Pastor Amos Dantley.
Irene was gifted in the arts and crafts, a seamstress, an educator, a beautician, loved poetry with favorite poet. She taught her children positive life lessons, the Word of God, and how to treat others. She was benevolent, a gardener, a women of modesty, and well dressed.
She was educated in Dodge County School District and graduated from Peabody High and continued with formal education in Cosmetology. She met and married Martin Chambers of Jackson, Mississippi and remained a faithful wife until his passing. She later met and married Isiah Martin who she faithfully cared through a lengthy illness until his passing.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Almo & Ina Timmons; siblings: Ida Mae Rozier, Elmo Timmons, Adell Shivers, Melvin Timmons, Yuanita Wilder, Lillian Marshall, Nancy Hendricks, Hubert Timmons, Virginia Williams, Ulysses Timmons, and Artie Belle Ledbetter, and a set of twins who transitioned after several months. She was the last surviving sibling of the Timmons children. And also, leaves to cherish her best friend and sister’s Auntie Pearl Barden and Dolores White.
Irene was a devoted and faithful member of Second Baptist Church under Sydney L. Hampton, and then Amity Baptist Church as one of Missionary Presidents until her health no longer allowed. She departed this life on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, leaving to cherish her memory; Mary Chambers (Perrin), Hazel Chambers, Dorothy Chambers, Estella S. Chambers, Martin Chambers II, Brenda Chambers, Anita Collins, and Sally Matthews who helped to care for until her transitioning. Lastly, but not least, preceding her also in death are Willie Robert Chambers, Amelia Chambers, Haril Lewis.
She leaves to also cherish three generations of grandchildren who affectionately call her, “Big Granny”. And, whenever she’d speak to them by phone or visiting she’d always reply, with open arms. “This Much!
! She also loved the children of Mrs. Eva Thomas and Josephine Baker and claimed them as her own. We will forever and always cherish the memory of our Mother, Grandmother, friend, confidant, and Spiritual Adviser, who spoke with wisdom and knew how to comfort us during times of need.
