Bluefield, WV- J. Kevin Caldwell, 58, of Bluefield, WV passed away peacefully on January 14, 2019 after a hard fought battle with chronic liver disease. He was born to parents Jan and Barbara Caldwell on March 24th, 1960 in Mullens, WV. Kevin graduated from Mullens High School as Salutatorian and received a Bachelor of Arts from Alderson and Broaddus University.

Kevin was an accomplished high school and college athlete, as well as a highly awarded academic scholar. He later went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Special Education and Curriculum. Kevin “Coach K” dedicated his life to serving his community.

Well known as a devoted coach and teacher of 20 years, he helped shape the lives of countless individuals. He later went on to further serve his community as a mentor for Recovery Point WV. A constant of encouragement and guidance both on and off the court, Coach K’s legacy will be carried on in the hearts of his former students and athletes, as well as his friends and family alike.

Kevin was known for his fun-loving personality and sense of humor. His infectious energy, kindness, and laughter will be cherished and missed greatly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Erma and Oakley Lane, Edith and Delmas Caldwell; and his father, D. Jan Caldwell.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Caldwell, and brother Christopher Caldwell of Roanoke, Va. ; the mother of his children, Vickie Caldwell of Falls Mills, Va. ; his daughters, Jana Morrison and husband Jared of Falls Mills, Va.

, Allison Powers and fiancé Brandon Osborne of Lebanon, Va, and Kristen Caldwell of Centerville, OH. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved grandchildren, Addison, Ethan, and Dylan Powers, Karson Morrison, and Brently and Elayna Osborne. He was survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 19th, 2019 from 12:30 to 2:00pm at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia or Recovery Point WV.
