J W Griffin, age 85, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord, Monday, July 23, 2108, in an Atlanta, Texas nursing home. J W was born July 25, 1932, in Cass County, Texas, to “Hoss” and Lessie Griffin. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, worked at the Texas Highway Department, and in later years was self-employed.

J W enjoyed camping, horse drawn buggies, trail riding, watching the Atlanta Rabbit track and football teams, and going to watch his grandchildren in their sporting… Read More » events. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe and Harold Griffin; and a sister, Myrl Walker. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille Griffin; son Jerry Griffin; daughter, Nancy Lee; sister Mamie Roberts; five grandchildren, Michael Stringer, Mark Stringer, Jeric Griffin, Braven Griffin, Maggie Lee; seven great grandchildren, Maci Stringer, Mallori Stringer, Brinkli Stringer, Asher Stringer, Sophi Stringer, Sawyer Stringer, Jett Griffin; lifelong friend Melvin Coats; and a number of nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

Services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, July 27, 2018, in the Hanner Funeral Chapel, with members of the family officiating. Visitation will be from 6pm- 8pm, Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Hanner Funeral Service. Interment will be in New Colony Cemetery.
