Jack Eugene Winter, 87, of Marion, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Donnie Colson officiating.

Burial with military rites will be at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday. Jack was born on May 6, 1931, in Chicago, to David Samuel and Jennie V. (Richardson)Winter.

He married Violet Mae Watson on September 2, 1956, in Hernando, Mississippi. Jack was baptized in faith at Glendale Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1971. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Violet Mae Winter of Marion; daughters, Donna Kay Restivo of St. Louis, Rebecca Diane Winter of Nashville, Tennessee, Crystal (Jimmy) Owens of Scott City, Missouri, and Jennifer (Bob) Miller of Johnston City; son, Jack (Renée) Winter II of Nashville; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and brother, Tom (Barb) Winter of Orlando, Florida.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Valerie June Winter and Sgt. Lesa Winter; and son, Jason Jeffrey Winter. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Jack was a talented design engineer having worked on diverse projects over the years-from the Apollo 11 to the machine that makes Bugles-his creative genius knew no bounds. He was a lifelong member of the NRA who was gifted marksman and sharpshooter that also enjoyed hunting out at Crab Orchard Refuge. Jack liked to play golf, work on RC airplanes and research genealogy.

He also was a member of the West Englewood Masonic Lodge in Chicago, serving as past Master Mason.
