Jack Lee Hillyer November 01, 1931 – January 20, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Jack Lee Hillyer, 87, of Macomb, Illinois, died peacefully Sunday, January 20, 2019. He was born November 1, 1931 in Macomb, Illinois to Major Ward and Pearl Foxall Hillyer. He married Margaret Elaine Strader on June 15, 1951.

Survivors include sons Michael (Maria) Hillyer of Bentonville, Arkansas and Jeffrey of Macomb, Illinois; granddaughter Oksana Hillyer of Searcy, Arkansas; and sister Mary (Dale) Beal of Macomb, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marge; his daughter Janet Lynn; and his twin brother Robert. Jack was a 1950 graduate of Macomb High School.

He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Illinois University, Macomb, Illinois in 1954; a Master of Science in Education from Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois in 1960; and a Doctor of Education from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri in 1972. Jack taught Industrial Arts in Galesburg, Illinois and Delavan, Illinois; was principal in Peotone, Illinois; Harvey, Illinois; Bushnell, Illinois and Dixon, Illinois. Jack was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy serving as a Communications and Operations Officer aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saipan during the Korean War.

He also served aboard the destroyer U.S.S Dupont. Jack retired in 1988 after 30+ years of teaching/educational administration. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading, gardening, woodworking and many outdoor activities.

At Jack’s request, there will be no visitation. A private graveside ceremony will be at a later date in Macomb. Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
