James B. O’Day, age 85, of Spring Grove, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Centegra Hospital – McHenry. He was born December 11, 1932 in Chicago to Ralph and Ida (Strand) O’Day. James attended Taft High School and later joined the U.S. Army.

He was stationed in Reading, England where he met and married Jeanette Church on August 7, 1954. While in England they started their family and eventually moved to Chicago and later were longtime residents of McHenry. James was employed as a truck… Read More » driver for Garre Oil and later for Palatine Oil until his retirement in 1998.

Among his enjoyments, James collected guns, loved to fish, read and putz around the garage. His mind was always sharp as a tac. He was a loving husband, dad and papa.

His best bud was his great-grandson Cooper. James is survived by two children, Lynn Ruemelin, Kevin O’Day; three grandchildren, Michael Ruemelin Gina (Joseph) Frano, Jennifer O’Day; four great-grandchildren, Michael Ruemelin, Joseph and Benjamin Frano, Cooper O’Day; a brother, Richard O’Day; sister-in-law, Iris Jefferies; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Johnny Mumber, Jeanette Betts, Pete (Karen) McGee. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette on May 31, 2016; two sisters, Patricia Bell and Lorraine Sullivan; son-in-law, Mike Ruemelin; and dear friends, Patsy and Jimmy Ruemelin.
