James R. Hess, Sr., 72 EAST LIVERPOOL – James R. Hess, Sr., of Ohio Avenue, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019 at his home following an illness. He was 72. Born in East Liverpool, March 30, 1946, he was a son of the late Richard Hess and June Farnsworth Schoolcraft.

He worked for Homer Laughlin China Company for over 47 years. He enjoyed taking long car rides with his wife and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Plum Hess, whom he married March 16, 1974.

There are four daughters, Michelle Kopras, Angie Hess, Kara Hess and Ashley Hess, along with seven grandchildren. There are three sisters, Shirley Hartley, Carol Copestick and Nancy Dobbins, and three brothers, Bill Hess, Dave Schoolcraft and Jeff Schoolcraft. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, James R. Hess, Jr. Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Terry Weyand will conduct a funeral service Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery. Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship. To send flowers to the family of James R. Hess Sr., please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
