Susan B. Stephens, 76 ELKRUN TOWNSHIP – Susan B. Stephens, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, March 21, 2019 at her home. She was 76. Born in Youngstown, Ohio September 25, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Dwight V. and Irma A. Johnson Beede.

A member of the Beaver Local High School Class of 1960, she was a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University. She later earned a Master of Science in Human Development from Penn State University. Susan was instrumental in the startup, development and early operation of the Columbiana County Joint Vocational School.

She also held positions in public education in New England, Pennsylvania and Ohio. For many years, she owned and operated the Elkton Tree Farm along with her husband. A member of the Northside Community Church for many years, she recently attended First United Methodist Church in East Liverpool.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Stephens on October 12, 2008. The couple married June 6, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Rudd Beede.

Left to remember her are her sister, Gretchen Dawson and her husband, Frank, along with two sisters-in-law, Shirley Scott and Alexis Fathbruckner (Mark), a stepson John B. Stephens, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, a step-grandson Robert Stephens (Tina Nandi), a step-great-grandchild Kairev John Stephens Nandi, and a stepdaughter Deborah A. Stephens. Many nieces and nephews also survive: Belinda Dunlap (Jim), CeCe Graham (Tom), Dike Dawson (Jenny), Cliff Dawson (Alisa), Jolene Hefner, Linda Lawhorn, Lois Caspary (Rick), Dru Vesey, Wallace Clay, Amy Cummings (Ronnie), Brian Clay (Terri), and Stefanie Nave (Kirk); as well as many great nieces and nephews. There are two step-sisters, JoAnne Trow (Cliff), and Elizabeth Lane, and a step-brother Phillip Johnson (Peggy).

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from noon to 6:00 p.m. Pastor Stephen J. Knisely will conduct a funeral service Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
