James R. “Jim” Ash, 75, of Connersville passed away Thursday evening, September 20, 2018, at University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he had been a patient since Wednesday. One of six children of Robert and Gertrude Rowland Ash, Jim was born on November 13, 1942, in Idamay, Kentucky. He came to Connersville with his family as a child and was a 1962 graduate of Connersville High School.

Jim served with the Indiana National Guard for six years. On July 2, 1966, Jim married the former Leah Marie Cook at First Baptist Church of Connersville. Mrs. Ash survives.

On November 1, 1971, Jim became a fireman with the City of Connersville Fire Department, retiring in 2001 having earned the rank of Lieutenant. He also worked for Powell Pest Control and earlier was employed at McQuay-Norris. Following his retirement, Jim worked for Hartzell Restoration.

Jim was a member of the International Firefighters Association Local #2205 and in his leisure time he enjoyed bowling and watching his grandchildren’s sporting and school activities. An avid traveler, Jim saw many places in the United States, but especially liked visiting Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Besides his wife of 52 years, Leah Ash, survivors include two children, David James (Cheryl) Ash and Sarah Ash Miller, all of Connersville; six grandchildren, Brandi (Tom) Elliott, David Ash, II (fiancé, Lindsay Henderson), Ashley (Jason) Combs, Brandon Cramer, Joe Miller, and Isabella Miller, all of Connersville; six great-grandchildren, Dakota, Hailey, Lexie, Rylan, Delilah, and Xander; two sisters, Pat (Dick) Yards of Cincinnati and Phyllis Pflum of Connersville; a son-in-law, Tommy Cramer of Connersville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Cramer in 2009; a sister, Helen Powell; and two infant brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Reverend Shawn Tipton will officiate.

Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made anytime at millermosterrobbins.com.
