James M. Evans, III “Jim”, 77, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, WV, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 11, 1941 in Weston, WV, the elder child of the late Augusta Haseleers Evans and James M. Evans. He was raised Methodist and attended the St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Parkersburg.

He was a 1959 graduate of Parkersburg High School where he played Big Red football and was a member of the 1958 State Championship team. He attended Glenville State College and the West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV. He also served his country in the United States Marine Corp.

He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways where he had 30 years of service. Jim enjoyed hunting and sports of all kinds. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Vienna Men’s Association.

He looked forward to morning coffee each day with his friends at Worthington Golf Course and breakfast every other Tuesday with his high school classmates. He is survived by two children, James David Evans and Suzanne L. Evans (L. Marvin Boyce) both of Parkersburg; two grandchildren who were the lights of his life, Jared L. Evans and Madison S. Evans, both of Parkersburg; and a sister Pamela A. Evans of Bluffton Sun City.

South Carolina. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn S. Evans “Susie”, a long-time teacher in the Wood Co. School System. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, WV with Father George Nedeff officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, March 4, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow on Wednesday at the convenience of the family.
