Jimmy Gibbs, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, January 20, 2019, at White Oak Estates-Spartanburg. Born May 14, 1937, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late James Roy Gibbs and Viola Marie Reynolds Gibbs. A U. S. Air Force veteran, Mr. Gibbs was owner/operator of Boiling Springs Body Shop.

Upon retiring he was an avid golfer at The Creek Golf Course where he also cooked for the snack bar. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Donna Ballenger Gibbs of the home; daughters, Cynthia Evans (Phil) of Fairforest, SC and Tammy Gibbs of Summerville, SC; son, James Riley Gibbs Jr. (Lisa) of Inman, SC; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Wilson of Charlotte, NC; brother, Cletus Gibbs (Donna) of Boiling Springs, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, Mimi. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Kathleen Davis, Helen Hinson, and Mildred Doster; and brother, Kenneth Gibbs.

Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307 with funeral services, with military rites, following at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd. , Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. Jimmy was a loving husband and father who was dedicated to his extended family and friends.
