Obituary for James Kirkpatrick James (Jim) Kirkpatrick of Marietta, Ga. died Thursday morning April 18, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born July 1, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was the son of the late James Leroy Kirkpatrick, Sr. and Edith Carl Kirkpatrick. Jim spent his formidable years in Birmingham, Alabama. He played football at Ramsey High.

He received his under graduate degree from Auburn University 1952 and his medical degree from Emory University 1957. His postgraduate medical training was completed at Parkland Hospital Dallas, Texas and Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jim also serviced his country as a US Public Health Service physician on the Navaho Indian reservation in Fort Defiance, Arizona.

In 1963 Jim and family moved to Marietta, Georgia. Jim practiced Internal Medicine for five years in Marietta. He then took a position as a physician at Georgia Regional Hospital; in Decatur, Ga.

where he worked until his retirement in1996. Jim loved his family, his friends and life in general. He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, traveling, and playing golf.

He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He was especially keen on after dinner family discussion. Jim is survived by his spouse of 62 years, Lillian Null Kirkpatrick and their sons, James L. Kirkpatrick, III, M.D., Francis Carson Kirkpatrick and spouse Frank Colubiale and William Scott Kirkpatrick, M.D. and spouse Jane Denman Kirkpatrick, M. D. His grandchildren are James Kirkpatrick, IV and spouse Brooke, Elisa Kirkpatrick Edgerton and spouse Harris, the late Shea Kirkpatrick, Keely Kirkpatrick, Ellen Kirkpatrick Quezada and spouse Andy, and Will Kirkpatrick.

He has two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Services will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home 180 Church Street Marietta, Ga. 30060 on Saturday April 28, 2018.
