OBITUARY James L. Mays April 20, 1942 – December 18, 2018 James Lee Mays, 76, of Stuarts Draft passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Waynesboro on April 20, 1942, a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Lavvie (Clark) Mays. James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

He worked as a security guard with NiBCO and was a member of Stuarts Draft Christian Fellowship. Spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, and feeding the birds were a few of his favorite hobbies. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Powell, Zena Austin, and Constance Campbell.

Survivors include his children, Megan Mays, Keith Mays, and Bruce Mays and his wife, Sonya; siblings, George Mays, Lane Mays, John Mays, and Virginia Ann Churchill; special granddaughter, Brittany Mays, as well as numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm on Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Stuarts Draft Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery, 216 Howardsville Turnpike, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477 with Rev. Noah Grant officiating.

Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the daughter, Megan’s residence. There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stuarts Draft Christian Fellowship Church. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff with the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their loving care of James and his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
