James Mapp “Jim” Chandler, 62, of Norfolk, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Onancock, Virginia, as an eleventh generation Eastern Shoreman, he was the son of the late William Hogg Chandler and Cora James Mapp Chandler. He was a graduate of Broadwater Academy and Virginia Tech.

From an early age, Jim was involved in Emergency Medical Services, volunteering as a teenager as a firefighter and rescue squadsman with the Onancock Volunteer Fire Department. His passion continued as he attended Virginia Tech, and served on their rescue squad where he is a Life Member and Past Captain. After graduation Jim worked in the field of Emergency Medical Services, also volunteering with the Campbell County and Princess Anne Courthouse Rescue Squads.

He began his EMS career as a Field Coordinator for the Eastern Shore Medical Council, then on to the Blue Ridge EMS Council as Executive Director. He started out at the Tidewater Emergency Medical Services Council as a Training Coordinator. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Tidewater EMS Council, where he has spent the last 36 years of his career.

He also proudly serves an Administrative and Finance Section Chief for the Virginia -1 Disaster Assistance Team, DMAT. Survivors include his loving wife, Ramona Allen Chandler, daughters, Chelsea Paige Chandler and husband, Derrick Myles Edwards, and Kendall Christine Chandler; a brother, William Hogg Chandler, Jr. and wife Coni Muhle Chandler, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Chesapeake, Va.

, on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Onancock, Va. , at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Oman Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Onancock Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 28, Onancock Va. or the Tidewater EMS Council, 1104 Madison Plaza, Suite 101, Chesapeake, Va.
