Obituary for James “Newt” Elmore James Newton “Newt” Elmore, 89, of Rock Hill, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 20, 1929 in Lee County, SC, son of the late Vernon Carl and Elise Goff Elmore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Mason Erickson; sisters, Maddie Mathis, Lucille Lane, Frances Haney and Loretta Rhodes; and brothers, V.C. and Charlie Elmore.

Newt finished High School in Hartsville, SC in 1947. After numerous jobs, he decided insurance was for him. He sold millions of dollars of life insurance for Palmetto State Life for 42 years.

He served as a manager, district manager and life counselor, retiring in 1989. Newt had a wonderful retirement. He loved going to McDonalds every morning to see his friends.

A many of many hobbies, he especially liked working on guns and model cars. Newt loved the Lord and heaven has received a wonderful man. He will surely be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 57 years, Shirley Strange Elmore; their sons, Clyde Ronald “Ron” Elmore (Angie) of Rock Hill and their children, Josh and Jacob and James Randall “Randy” Elmore (Tammy) of Rock Hill and their children, Miranda Lamonie (Phillip), Steven and Tyler; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Lou Gregory of Union, SC and Doris Rowe of West Palm Beach, FL. Newt is also survived by his children from his first marriage, Debra Adkins (Bill) of Catawba and their children, Eddie Adkins (Kori), Tammy McGovern (Kevin) and Robin Vosler (Jason) and James Newton “Jimmy” Elmore, Jr. (Janet) of FL and their two sons, Brandon (Janet) and Jason (Jeanelle); 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter on the way. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made in Newt’s memory to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, 29731.
