James O. Booth March 16, 1942 – November 25, 2018 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card James Oran “Jim” Booth, 76, of New Strawn, KS, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. Jim was born March 16, 1942, at the family home east of Cambridge KS, the son of Oran Berkley and Flora Jane (Hankins) Booth. He grew up at Cambridge where he attended the Cambridge Presbyterian Church.

He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1960 and then attended electronic school in Kansas City. He received an apprenticeship from KG&E in 1961 and worked as a journeyman mechanic at the Wichita Murray Gill Plant for a number of years. On September 6, 1964, he and Linda Ann Watt were married at Cambridge.

They made their home in Clearwater, KS while Jim was employed by KG&E. Jim enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and after playing in younger years, he continued to play baseball in Wichita. He took night classes at Wichita State University while working during the day.

He and Linda moved to Gillette, WY, in 1977 where Jim was employed at Wyodak Power Plant. In 1980 they moved to Winfield, KS and Jim worked at the family’s International Harvester dealership. In 1982 they moved to New Strawn and Jim worked at Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation until his retirement in 1999.

Jim enjoyed his retirement. He continued to enjoy the outdoors, fishing and hunting, as he always had. He also enjoyed doing lathe and mill work in his shop.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Natalie Ann Booth; his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Richard Booth; and a sister, Arlene Thompson. He leaves Linda, his wife of more than 54 years; his son, Brian Booth of Tulsa, OK; his daughter, Stacey Booth of Fernandina Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Jazmine and Colani Booth; three sisters-in-law, Jo Alice Booth of Eustace, TX, Sonja Booth of Wichita, KS, and Kathy Johnson, of Prairie Village, KS; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 30, 2018, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.

The family will meet with friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Coffey County Cancer Support Group or Coffey County OK Kids, and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839. Inurnment will be at a later date in Cambridge Cemetery.
