Smith, Jr., 68, of Martins Ferry, OH died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV after a year long battle of complications from a double lung transplant. He was born June 20, 1950 in Martins Ferry. Jim will be welcomed in heaven by his parents James Robert Sr. and Jeanie Smith.

He retired after 39 years from the Mingo Junction Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel and continued working driving an ice truck. Surviving are his three daughters; Kim (C.J.) Snell, Amy (Bruce) Wilhelm and Tracy (Mark) Hughes, his sisters; Darla (Ken) Mitchell, Rhonda (Dayle) Conaway and Missy (Greg) Malesky, his brother, Richard Smith, his grandchildren, Bralen, Kameron, McKenna, Averie, Haden, Torie, Ford, and Malia, also his lifelong buddy, George Tice. He will be missed on his favorite spot, his front porch.

Family and friends will be received at Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH, Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 4 – 8 p.m. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to: Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV. Condolences to the family may be made by signing the guest book at the top of this posting.
