James Ray “Friday” Meredith, 94, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Heritage Health. James was born on November 16, 1924 in Williamsville the son of Hayden and May Ramsey Meredith. He married Betty Moser on December 31, 1968 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on April 13, 2013.

James retired from the State of Illinois after 34 years and worked in the construction office during the building of Red Roof Inn in Springfield. He was a member of Riverton Lavely Lodge #786 A.F. & A.M. and past member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Roberta (Larry) Hamel of Carlinville; stepchildren, David (Angelica) Connell of Springfield and Patty (Ted) Merano of Chatham; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; three nieces; three nephews; three great nieces; four great nephews; one great-great niece and one great-great nephew. Cremation will be accorded.
