Obituary for James Ryan James Ryan 81 born January 21, 1937 passed away Friday July 27, 2018 at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center with his family by his side. Jim was the founder of Market Finders Insurance Corporation, of which he was Chairman and CEO for 45 years. He was past president of the American Association of Managing General Agents, the Kentucky Surplus Lines Insurance Association, and Kentucky Lloyd’s of London Association.
He served on the board of directors of the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices. Mr. Ryan was the 2017 recipient of the Baylor Landrum, Jr. Leave a Legacy Award presented during the National Philanthropy Day on behalf of Hosparus/Hospice, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association. Jim raced and bred thoroughbred horses for 30 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, with whom he spent the best 44 years of his life and his parents, Martin and Lucy (Misklow) Ryan. He is survived by his sisters; Barbara Buzy, Patricia Kronz (Frank), and Kathleen Ryan and one brother; Martin Ryan Jr. (Betty); close friend, business associate, and right-hand man; Joe Miller; Secretary, Sheila Davis; close friend, Missy Bryant, and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday July 31, 2018 at St. Agnes Catholic Church 1920 Newburg Rd.
Visitation will be Monday July 30, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home 12900 Shelbyville Rd. -East Louisville. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension, 801 Roeder Road, #1000, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
